IBRAN-X-30 is our 30mm octagonal ground reinforcement grid: the shallowest grid in the range and, cell for cell, the strongest. The octagonal geometry distributes load across eight faces instead of four, which is what lets a 30mm section carry the same 500 tonnes per square metre as grids half again its depth.

That matters most where dig depth is the constraint. On a driveway that has to meet an existing threshold, a path alongside a building, or a project where you are working to a fixed finished level, every 10mm of grid depth is 10mm of excavation and 10mm of spoil to remove. IBRAN-X-30 gives you the load capacity without the depth.

Where it works best

  • Gravel driveways and parking. The octagonal cells hold angular stone tightly and stop the migration that turns loose gravel into ruts and bare patches.
  • Paths and walkways. Filled level and blinded, it gives a firm, even surface that walks well and takes a wheelbarrow or a wheelchair.
  • Shed, bin and hot tub bases. A free-draining, load-spreading base that goes down in an afternoon, with no concrete and nothing to mix.
  • Shallow build-ups. Anywhere the finished level is fixed and you cannot afford the depth a deeper grid needs.

How it compares to the 40mm

Both carry 500 t/m2. The difference is depth and what follows from it. IBRAN-X-30 needs less excavation, less spoil removal and fits 25% more grids on a pallet, which brings the delivered cost per square metre down on any job of size.

The 40mm IBRAN-X is the better choice for reinforced grass, where the extra depth gives the root zone room to establish under traffic. For gravel surfaces, IBRAN-O is what we would specify.

Installation

Excavate to your sub-base depth plus 30mm plus a 5-10mm blinding. Lay a woven geotextile, then compacted MOT Type 1 in layers of no more than 75mm. Blind with grit sand, screed level, push-fit the grids together and fill the cells with angular 10-20mm gravel. Add no more than 10mm over the top: anything deeper is unconfined stone and will migrate. Full sequence in our installation guide.

Yes. IBRAN-O carries 500 tonnes per square metre once filled, which is well beyond any domestic vehicle loading. Depth is not what determines strength here: the octagonal cell geometry is. What the sub-base does underneath matters far more than the grid depth.
Both carry the same load. IBRAN-O is shallower, so there is less to dig out and less spoil to remove, and 25% more grids fit on a pallet. Choose the 40mm instead if you are filling with grass rather than gravel, because the root zone needs the extra depth.
Fill the cells level, then add a 5-10mm blinding layer so the cell walls are just covered. That is the maximum. Anything deeper sits above the confinement and will migrate exactly as loose gravel always does. Our gravel calculator works out the quantity for your area.
Yes, and it is particularly effective on slopes. Confining the stone in cells is what stops it washing to the bottom in heavy rain, which is the usual failure of loose gravel on any gradient steeper than about 1:12.
For cars, 50-80mm of compacted MOT Type 1 over a woven geotextile. For regular van or delivery traffic, go to 100-150mm. The geotextile is the step people skip and the one that causes the most failures: without it the stone works down into the subsoil.
No. Filled and blinded correctly the grid sits below the stone and is not visible. With grass infill it disappears entirely once the sward establishes.
